Casper Sunley, Swimming Captain, writes: On Friday 11th March, the 1st swimming team left bright and early for London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to swim in the Bath Cup at The London Aquatics Centre. It is our third successive year of competing, and this year we were delighted to field a girls’ team as we did in 2014. The event, in effect the independent schools’ swimming championships, comprises the Otter Medley Relay, and the Bath, Aldenham and Dunelm Cups. The event is very exciting to swim in as the atmosphere in the Centre is amazing: some 60 schools compete overall. The girls put in a good effort in both the morning and afternoon sessions, with very good swims from Caitlin Scott, Hannah Monks, Amber Walkinshaw and Maddie Catchpole. The girls also performed well in the medley relays in the afternoon, with Alexia Demetriou swimming a fantastic butterfly, along with Alika Yasyuchenya, Amber and Maddie.
The boys put in a seriously good swim in the morning in the 4X100 metre relays: Matt Thornton, Casper Sunley, Sascha Clark-Jones and Frank Wates all swam incredibly well. It was, however, the afternoon relay that proved the best. Louis Wright, Casper, Matt and Vladimir Farenkov beat their predicted time of 2.40.00 coming in just over three seconds faster. A fantastic effort from all concerned against some very good teams.
The whole day enabled the best swimmers at Teddies to watch some very good performances from other schools, observing techniques and learning little snippets of know-how. It was a real treat to watch some high diving training in the afternoon too! We look forward to a couple of fixtures next term against Stowe, Downe House and Oratory.
