Ollie Barstow, Head of Design and Technology, describes the Lower Sixth’s trip to Kensington this week to visit the Design Museum:

“Consumer choice is a vital part of our society, helping to drive the economy and provide us with the products we both need and want. But how much do we really understand about why we make the choice we do? What motivates us to buy one product rather than another?

The Lower Sixth Designers were posed this question when they went to the Design Museum on Thursday. We spent the day challenging them with the question ‘What is good Design?’ With tasks to Design a Chair for Mr Trump and Mrs May, and being posed questions such as ‘are there professions more harmful than industrial design’ we spun on Thomas Heatherwick’s chair, identified Frank Gehry’s Wiggle and found interest in the material world that so many people take for granted.

A massive thank you to Miss Holland for organising the day, it was insightful.”
